Dr. Mohammad Hatta: A Great Man of Indonesi
<br/ >Dr. Mohammad Hatta, one of Indonesia's great men, is remembered for his deep love for his country and people. Born in Bukittinggi on August 12th, 1902, Hatta developed an interest in politics at a young age and joined the League of Young Sumatrans while still in junior high school. <br/ > <br/ >Hatta's passion for his country led him to pursue higher education in Batavia and later in the Netherlands, where he studied economics and obtained a doctorate degree. During his time in the Netherlands, he actively participated in the national movement, which ultimately led to his arrest. <br/ > <br/ >Upon his return to Indonesia in 1923, Hatta joined the political organization "Pendidikan Nasional Indonesia," which aimed to raise political awareness among the Indonesian people. However, his activities once again resulted in his arrest, and he was exiled to Boven Digul and later to Banda Naira by the colonial government. <br/ > <br/ >It was shortly before the Japanese invasion that Hatta was brought back to Java. When the Japanese surrendered in August 1945, Hatta, along with Soekarno, proclaimed Indonesia's independence. He became the first vice-president of the Republic of Indonesia. <br/ > <br/ >In 1956, Hatta resigned as vice-president and dedicated himself to writing.
