Environmental Literacy Profile of Secondary School Students in Bogor Regency

Introduction: Environmental literacy is a crucial aspect of education, especially for secondary school students. It equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand environmental issues and make informed decisions regarding sustainable practices. This research aims to assess the level of environmental literacy among secondary school students in Bogor Regency. Methodology: To gather data on the environmental literacy profile, a survey was conducted among 500 randomly selected secondary school students from various schools in Bogor Regency. The survey consisted of questions related to their understanding of key ecological concepts, awareness about local environmental challenges, engagement in environmentally friendly behaviors, and attitudes towards nature conservation. Results: 1) Understanding Ecological Concepts: The results indicated that while most students had basic knowledge about topics such as biodiversity and climate change, there were gaps when it came to more complex concepts like ecosystem dynamics or pollution control measures. 2) Awareness About Local Environmental Challenges: A significant number of respondents showed limited awareness about specific local environment-related problems faced by their region such as deforestation or water pollution caused by industrial activities. 3) Engagement In Environmentally Friendly Behaviors: Surprisingly enough though many participants expressed concern over global warming; only a small percentage actively engaged themselves into eco-friendly actions like recycling waste materials or conserving energy at home/schools etc. 4) Attitudes Towards Nature Conservation Most respondents displayed positive attitudes toward nature conservation but lacked practical involvement due mainly because they felt uninformed/unsure how best contribute positively towards this cause. Discussion: These findings highlight both strengths and areas where improvement is needed within current educational programs focused on promoting sustainability amongst young people living around bogar regancy area . While some aspects show promise (such as general interest), others indicate room for growth (like lackluster participation). Conclusion: In conclusion ,the study reveals an overall moderate levelof enviromental litracy amoungst secoundary scholl student population residing near boger recgncy which suggests scope existsfor further enhancing thier knowldge base through targeted interventions aimedat increasing awarness & active partcipationin envirnmental sustanability initatives
