The Story of the Golden Cucumber
Once upon a time, in a small village in Java, lived a kind old woman. She was very poor and lived alone. One day, she was working in her garden when she found a golden cucumber. She was very surprised and happy. She took the cucumber home and decided to plant it. The next day, the cucumber had grown into a beautiful vine. The old woman was amazed. She watched over the vine carefully, and soon it was covered in golden cucumbers. The old woman was so happy. She had enough food to eat and could even sell some of the cucumbers to make money. One day, a giant came to the village. He was very hungry and saw the old woman's golden cucumbers. He wanted to eat them all. The old woman was scared, but she was also clever. She told the giant that she would give him all the cucumbers if he could climb the vine and pick them. The giant was happy to agree. He climbed the vine, but it was very slippery. The old woman quickly took a sharp knife and cut the vine. The giant fell to the ground and was killed. The old woman was safe, and she continued to live happily ever after.
