The Case Against Institutional Reform: Why Defunding the Police is a More Effective Strategy
Defunding the police has become a contentious issue in recent years, with many advocating for institutional reform as a means to address police abuse and misconduct. However, this author disagrees with such an approach and argues that defunding the police remains a more effective strategy in combating these issues. Firstly, institutional reform often focuses on improving police training and accountability mechanisms. While these measures may be necessary, they do not address the root cause of police abuse and misconduct – systemic racism and bias within law enforcement agencies. By defunding the police, resources can be redirected towards community-based initiatives that promote social justice and equality.
