The LOOKUP function in Microsoft Excel actually does have two variants. One is vector form and other is array form. Vector form will 'LOOKUP' a value in a one-row or one-column range and return a result from the same position in a range. On the other side, the array form will 'LOOKUP' a value in the first row or column of an array and returns a value in the same position in the last row or column. VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP are also widely used lookup functions, but are not exactly forms or variants of the LOOKUP function. SUMIF, COUNTIF, MAX and MIN are different functions altogether and not related to LOOKUP.
