Versailles is 500m long, had over 1300 major rooms and accommodate 500 people. The first architect was Louis le Vau, but Jules Hardoun-Mansart took over in 1676 , adding the second storey. The interior was conceived by Charles le Brun. His Hall of Mirrors is a long hall lined with mirrors. A mastery painted ceiling shows Louis XIV's achievements. Throughout Versailles high ceiling and great doors are emblazoned in gold with the mark of the sun god, Apollo and also that of King Louis, known as the Sun King. The huge garden of tree-linedterraces and ponds were lanscaped by Andre le Notre with 1400 fountains, 400 new pieces of sculpture, and four millions tulips. The gardens at Versailles have been enlarged several times and now cover nearly 101 hectares. Planting, fountains, and statues are arranged in geometric patterns. The fountains appear magically still show the power of the king over nature. During the French Revolution on 6^("m ") October 1789 , mobs invaded the palace and wrecked its interiors. Restoration began in 1837. Now, the palace becomes one of the famous tourist attractions in France.
