Pengertian degree of comparison
Comparison Degree adalah istilah dalam tata bahasa Inggris untuk menunjukkan perbandingan. Pada Comparison Degree, adjective atau adverb akan berubah bentuknya sesuai dengan tingkat perbandingannya. Oleh karena itu, Gelar Perbandingan bisa juga disebut sebagai Tingkat Perbandingan. Ada 3 tingkat perbandingan dalam kata sifat yaitu:
Tingkat biasa (positive degree)Tingkat lebih (comperative degree)Tingkat paling (superlative degree)
Untuk kata sifat tingkat biasa yang terdiri dari satu atau dua suku kata. Maka, tingkat lebih (comperative degree) ditambah dengan “er” dan “est” untuk tingkat paling (superlative degree). Contohnya:
Tall - taller – the tallest
High – higher – the highest
Untuk kata sifat tingkat biasa yang terdiri dari tiga suku kata atau lebih, maka untuk kata sifat tingkat lebih (comperative degree) ditambah dengan more dan most untuk tingkat paling (superlative degree). Contohnya:
Possible – more possible – most possible
Important – more important – most important
Ada beberapa kata sifat yang tidak beraturan maka untuk tingkat lebih dan paling tidak sama dengan tingkat biasa (positive degree). Contohnya:
Good - better than - the best
Bad - worse than - the worst
Little - less than - the least
