Dalam membentuk kalimat kondisional (conditional sentence), kita harus memerhatikan bentuk dan waktu tenses yang digunakan. Untuk kalimat kondisional tipe 3 (menggambarkan situasi yang tidak mungkin terjadi karena kejadian tersebut adalah masa lalu), kita menggunakan bentuk Past Perfect Tense dalam klausa "if" (misalnya: "if I had seen") dan akan menggunakan bentuk "would have" pada klausa responnya (misalnya: "I would have told").
Sama halnya dengan kalimat kondisional tipe 2 (menggambarkan situasi yang tidak mungkin atau tidak nyata), pda klausa "if" menggunakan Past Simple Tense (misalnya: "if she had") dan menggunakan "would" + infinitive (misalnya: "she would give") pada klausa respon atau hasilnya.
Sedangkan untuk kalimat kondisional tipe 1 (menggambarkan situasi yang mungkin terjadi di masa depan), klausa "if" akan memakai present tense (misalnya: "if I finish") dan klausa respon atau hasilnya akan menggunakan future tense dengan "will" (misalnya: "i will submit").
