The Jakarta administration plans to allow the use of electronic ID (e-ID) cards, locally called e-KTP cards, to access public toilets on the Tanah Abang Skybridge in Central Jakarta, which is to open soon. Research and development assistant manager Johan Sufandi of city wastewater management company PD PAL Jaya, which is providing the smart toilets, said the system would allow people easy access to the toilets. The card system will automatically record the number of people who tap their IDs on the door to enter the public toilet facilities. Johan said the e-ID card system would be more efficient than using the electronic cash (e-money) cards issued by banks. "Using [e-money] cards from banks would be more complicated and require a large investment, too," Johan said on Monday as quoted by tempo.co. City-owned developer PD Sarana Jaya Pembangunan had asked PAL Jaya to provide four smart toilets along the skybridge on behalf of state railway company PT KAI.
